Tea Time: Pumpkin Spice and Skin Troubles

Hey guys! What's up? It's been a minute and I'm happy to be back. It's a new era here on the blog and there are some different things I'm going to be introducing. One of the things is here right now! Tea Time is going to be a really lax series that I'll be posting. It's just a cup of tea and some ramblings for the post. Hope you guys like it!

Today I'm drinking some pumpkin spice black tea. The tea is from Timothy's and is made of black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cove, nutmeg, star anise, melon, and orange. It's a very fragrant and yummy tea.
I'd like to rant about my skin for just a second. It's like my skin is sensitive to everything! Honestly I try so many different skin care and makeup products hoping that it'll do my skin some good, but everything just ends up making my face go red, itchy, and generally inflamed. It's pretty disheartening to be honest.
I always try to stick with natural products and moisturize with coconut oil and shea butter, but I just love trying different products. What can I say? Anyone else have this problem? Anyway, this is what tea time is going to be like here. Great tea by the way. Hope everyone's having a wonderful day!

Ayurvedic Roast Review!

Hello everyone! For those of you ho don't know, I have an addiction to coffee. I love the taste of coffee, but sometimes I don't want all of the caffeine. This is where Ayurvedic Roast comes in!
About Ayurvedic Roast
Ayurvedic Roast all started back in 2005, when the creator decided he wanted a healthy coffee alternative. After success in the Midwest, Ayurvedic Roast expanded and now has customers across the world! Ayurvedic Roast's coffee alternative is caffeine-free, non-GMO, vegan, and 100% certified organic. This is the only coffee alternative that fits the organic criteria! Ayurvedic Roast is made of barley, chicory root, rye, and other ayurvedic herbs that offer a range of health benefits.
My Thoughts
When I first heard of Ayurvedic Roast, I thought it was brilliant! First, I'll talk about the convenience. On the site, it says that you should prepare 1-3 teaspoons per 8oz cup. You can make it in a coffee maker, percolator, french press, or as loose tea. Ayurvedic Roast is caffeine-free and the ayurvedic herbs can help relieve stress!

I find that ayurvedic roast is best brewed in a regular coffee maker. When I tried brewing in my tea infuser, I got little pieces in the liquid, which I didn't like. When I tried it in the coffee maker, it worked perfectly!

The taste is a great nutty flavor that is fairly close to coffee. Since I got the french vanilla flavor, I got that good coffee flavor with some vanilla. I think I got notes of chocolate too. It tastes delicious. If you want a hot beverage that is very close to coffee and healthy for you, check out Ayurvedic Roast!

Amy's Cheese Enchildas Review!

If you've ever explored vegetarian foods, chances are you've heard of Amy's! Here's my thoughts on the Cheese Enchiladas!

About Amy's
Amy's started in 1987 when there was a huge need for easy, organic, vegetarian foods. Amy's has a strict policy to only allow organic non-gmo ingredients into their foods. Amy's  is a family owned company that has created literally hundreds of foods to fill the need for delicious, convenient, organic foods. Some of Amy's latest projects are family size, frozen desserts, and biscotti!
My Thoughts

When I first opened the box, I noticed that the serving is pretty generous. Even though there is only one enchilada, it is still a pretty large one! There is a good size serving of corn and beans too.

The first thing I noticed is the strong seasoning of the overall dish. It is well seasoned with a strong taste of paprika, garlic, cilantro, and a lot of others that I can't really identify. I really enjoyed that! The golden corn tastes spicy and is probably the best corn I've every had. The bean is a nice thick texture that is very flavorful.

Now onto the largest part! The enchilada has a strong corn tortilla taste with heavy seasoning. The cheese sort of slid off while cooking it, but that didn't really bother me. It tastes amazing! I'll definitely be buying this again!

Organic Gemini Tiger Nuts Review!

Hello! I'm back with a review on a unique snack called tiger nuts!!
About Organic Gemini
Mariam Kinkladze was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and decided she and her partner should try a holistic approach and if that didn't work, she would turn to surgery. They changed their diets to raw, organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and dairy-free. After only 3 months, the cyst was gone completely! Around this time, Mariam and George also found out that they were expecting a baby, which she wasn't expecting to be possible being a ovarian cancer survivor. Over this time period, Mariam and George started to love healthy foods. One of these amazing foods is Tiger Nuts which they decided they wanted to offer to everyone!
My Thoughts

First, I thought I would give you all some background on Tiger Nuts! First of all, tiger nuts aren't actually nuts, but they are root vegetable. Chufa (another name for tiger nuts) comes from Northern Africa and the Mediterranean. Organic Gemini is one of the first companies to offer tiger nuts in America! Tiger nuts also have a plethora of health benefits.

I was so excited to try these exotic roots! Organic  Gemini also offer a lot of other tiger nut products including horchata. Horchata is a mixture of tiger nuts, water, and whatever else someone would decide to flavor it with. It sounds really unique and fun to me!

Anyway, back to the tiger nuts that I tried. In the bag, they feel pretty hard, but they can be chewed pretty easy as a good snack. They are naturally sweet and nutty, which is different than anything I've tried before. The bag also says that you can soak them to soften them up, but I haven't tried that yet.

Everyone in my house agrees that these are really good! The balance of nuttiness and sweetness will probably amaze your taste buds.

I also love that these tiger nuts are organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, paleo-friendly, nut-free, kosher, vegan, and raw! If you are looking for a unique tasty snack, check out Organic Gemini!

Coco Polo Review!

Hello! Coco Polo sent me a couple chocolate bars and a load of little samples, so here's a review!

 About Coco Polo
Diane Yamate and John Cunnell started thinking up all sorts of ideas of chocolate and stevia all the way back in 1996. After a lot of formulating, balancing, and awaiting FDA approval, Coco Polo was created! Coco Polo now offers a HUGE variety of chocolates that have no processed sugars.

My Thoughts

39% Milk Chocolate
I love this! This is a very generously sized 3 oz chocolate bar. The classic milk chocolate will appeal to most people! It contains cocoa antioxidants and is fair trade. The bar is also gluten-free and non-gmo.

The taste is the best chocolate I've ever had. Such a creamy milky good chocolate flavor that is delicate at the same time. It's not sickly sweet, but had the perfect ammount of erythritol and stevia to sweeten it. One of the reasons I try to avoid milk is the unhealthy hormones, but the milk from this chocolate bar is not treated with artificial rBST hormones.

70% Dark Chocolate
Just like the milk chocolate, this chocolate bar is a good 3 oz. The antioxidants are in there like the milk chocolate of course! It's gluten free and fair trade as well. This chocolate bar is 100% vegan! It's a very rich dark chocolate that is very strong. I enjoyed it a lot!

Milk Chocolate with Almonds
I got a little sample of milk chocolate with almonds, which I was really excited to try since I like almonds so much. It was a great quality chocolate with a few whole almonds throughout the sample, which I really liked! Any almond lover will love this chocolate bar.

Dark Chocolate Almond
A very rich dark flavor with almonds.  This one reminds me of nutty coffee in the best way.
  Dark Chocolate Cocoa Nibs
This chocolate is definitely very dark (which I'm sure I've already said).  This isn't necessarily a bad or good thing. I really enjoyed it the surprising cocoa nib crunch. Well, it wasn't surprising for me since I read it, but it was a nice unexpected flavor.

Milk Chocolate Hazelnut
This has to be one of my favorites! I am a huge fan of hazelnuts and I have hazelnut flavored creamer in every cup of coffee I drink. This chocolate has a very smooth creamy flavor that just melts in your mouth. It really left me wanting more!

Milk Chocolate Quinoa
This chocolate sample is amazing! It is a warm sweet milk chocolate with delicious crunchy quinoa. Definitely one of my favorites!!

Milk Chocolate Cherry
Coco Polo's cherries are so tart! It is a lot creamier and maybe even better than the dark chocolate. A lot of people who like chocolate covered cherries will LOVE this.

Dark Chocolate Cherry
A really  interesting flavor! It reminds me of chocolate covered cherries, but really tart. So tart you will probably twist your face up, but in a good way! Not too sweet, but very sour!

Dark Chocolate with Boabob
I loved this so much! It was very dark and very tangy, but very enjoyable. I didn't expect to like this, but I really did.

Milk Chocolate Mango
This is a true mango flavor is a creamy milk chocolate. If you like fruity chocolates, you'll love this, but this wasn't for me.

Milk Chocolate Elderberry
I've never had elderberry, but I've heard they are really good for you. I ended up liking them! They taste like blueberries with a dot of crunch in creamy milk chocolate. Really yummy and unique!

Dark Chocolate Elderberry
Just like the previous candy, but richer and darker. I actually really liked it!

I hope you guys check out some Coco Polo chocolate!

Harry & David Sesame Stick Review!

Hey guys! I recently bought some of these sesame sticks that I thought I would share my thoughts on!

About Harry & David
Since 1934, Harry & David has been a company offering gourmet foods and gift baskets. Harry & David is also focused on preserving the environment. These aren't just empty words. Harry & David has turned mail order into online shopping from their company since 2003. They've also been recycling since 1989!

My Thoughts

I love sesame sticks and always have. They've been my favorite part of trail mixes since forever, so when I found a bag of just sesame sticks, I knew I had to have a treat. While they are not low-calorie, they are a little healthier than other sesame sticks. They use no artificial dyes! I was so happy to see that Harry & David use beets and turmeric for colors.

Now onto the taste. They are the perfect texture that is a little flaky, but lots of sesame and flavor. You can add them into any trail mix or have them alone. These are so good! The sesame sticks are literally baked to perfection and are flavorful and amazing.

Vegan Dream Review!

Hello! I have a fun vegan treat to share with you guys today!

About Vegan Dream
Vegan Dream was started in 1995 when Mark Turman mixed up some special ingredients with a soybean base. He perfected the recipe and started selling it in 1997 when it was perfect. The company was passed to a friend, Eleanor White, who had big plans. She added flavors and here we are today with Vegan Dream still growing. Vegan Dream offers preservative-free, cholesterol-free, high-protein, and non-GMO jerky that is 100% vegan and delicious.

My Thoughts

When I became pesco-vegetarian I thought I couldn't have any kinds of jerky, but after finding Vegan Dream, I'm amazed that I can. All of these packs are only 90 calories each and high in protein!

Original Hickory Pepper
A nice mild jerky flavor with black pepper and a slight onion and garlic. Everyone liked it and had that good original flavor that most people like. I totally recommend you guys checking out this split pea soup recipe because it goes really good with it!

Cowgirl
Cowgirl is a little bit different than the rest. It is made of a special sauce that Vegan Dream buys themselves just for the jerky. I personally liked it and enjoyed the unique tomato-ish flavor and found that it has a slightly more sweet flavor that the rest. It's great and reminds me of autumn for some reason.

Hot Chili Pepper
This is probably the most flavorful jerky! I love the good onion, garlic, and chili pepper. I was worried it would be too spicy, but it was the perfect mild spice that you can feel when you bite into one of the seeds. I'm a baby when it comes to spicy foods, but I really enjoyed it! Don't be afraid of this if you're not a spice person because I think you'll really like it.

Teriaki
Teriaki was the most popular at my house. Everyone enjoys the strong smoky flavor with a really good texture. It has a slightly sweet salty great taste. There's not much else to say about it other than it is amazing!

The only thing I would change is making is resealable bag because it is a pretty generous serving size, but that doesn't really change my opinion of it. I also would love if they came out with a big family value pack!

Even if you aren't vegan or vegetarian, I still recommend this because it is healthier and has no MSG! I suggest you go on their site and try some Vegan Dream jerky!

Tonewood Maple Review!

I have a really unique review today that I think you guys will like. It's a great maple product company called Tonewood.

About Tonewood
Tonewood is a brand that offers premium maple products. Tonewood's maple syrups are unblended, free of additives, and sourced from one place. They provide maple products that won't be found anywhere else. The team at Tonewood builds the company on fair-trade sourcing and sustainability over everything. The minimalistic design and quality stand out in the maple world.

My Thoughts

As you can see, Tonewood takes traditional maple products and makes them modern and easy. I think Tonewood would fit into any lifestyle.

Maple Flakes ($12.99)
These crunchy maple flakes are an easy and convenient way to enjoy maple. They are made of 100% maple sugar and can be used in a plethora of ways. I've enjoyed them sprinkled in my cereal, yogurt, ice cream, and salad. A mixture of crunchy lettuce, dressing, chia seeds, and maple flakes make a delicious mix! Tonewood maple flakes are unique from anything I've tried and surprisingly versatile!

Maple Wafers ($16.99 for 4 packs)
For some reason, my sample was broken in a few different spots, but you probably shouldn't have this problem if you buy it in the box, since they are fragile. These are pure maple sugar in a bar to let the rich flavor shine through. These are such a delicious treat that reminds me of white maple fudge. It really melts into your mouth in a wonderful way. The only complaint about these is they left me wanting more!

Now I want to talk to you guys about Tonewood's tree adoption program. It is important to Tonewood to preserve maple trees and the small producers that make authentic maple products available. You can help by adopting a maple tree!

If you adopt a maple tree, you will receive 3 packages. Your first package will be your adoption certificate and a photo of the tree you adopted. Your second package will include 4 different types of maple syrup that range in uses from tea to waffles to marinades. The final package you'll receive a maple cube and some maple wafers. All of these packages will come at different times of the year and if you are interested in more information click here or here.

If you are looking for artisan authentic maple products, you'll be impressed by Tonewood!

Quorn Review!

Hello! I am so excited to tell you all my thoughts on a couple Quorn products. I know some of you guys already have heard of these foods, but I hope to bring some new information to you guys!

About Quorn
Quorn is a worldwide provider of meat substitute foods. They started in the UK, but have been available in the US for over a decade. These substitutes are made with a protein found within the fungi family. It sounds a little weird at first, but keep in mind that this is the same group that mushrooms come from (and who doesn't like mushrooms???). They are naturally soy-free, gmo-free, and of course meat-free. This makes a delicious food that is half the calories and fat, but still high in fiber and protein!

My Thoughts

If you didn't know, I am pesco-vegetarian, which means I don't eat any meat except for seafood. I love meat substitutes because they are often healthy and high in fiber and protein. Quorn is really quick and easy to prepare since it is frozen.

Chik'n Cutlets
One thing I really liked about the cutlets is how easy they are to make! There are a couple options, but I microwaved two for a minute and then cooked them in the pan with coconut oil for about five minutes. This was super easy and quick.

I had a friend eat lunch with me and we had the cutlet, avocado with chia seeds, and sauteed onions and mushrooms. It was delicious! The cutlets had a unique flavor from any substitute I've had before that I really enjoyed.

Chik'n Nuggets
Chicken Nuggets used to be such a guilty pleasure for me to eat and I haven't had them since going meat-free. It was really exciting to hear about a vegetarian option! Again, preparation was super easy. Just pop them in the oven for about 15 minutes and you have some warm breaded crispy nuggets!

I admit these aren't the healthiest option, but they are healthier than the meat alternative calorie and fat wise. These are definitely a great treat when you want healthier fast food.

To sum it up, Quorn is amazing!

Quest Bar Review!

Good morning everyone! Today looks like a double post day to me! Without further ado, here is a review on some great Quest bars.

About Quest
Quest is a company that's mission is to create delicious  bars with nutrition! They strive to use the best ingredients to make nutritious foods delicious too! They launched in 2010 and have been making history since!

My Thoughts

Vanilla Almond Crunch
This bar sounded really good to me! Almonds and most nuts are one of my favorite foods, so this was the best for me.

This stuff is literally just like a candy bar, but a lot healthier and maybe a little chewier. The almonds really make this bar what it is. This specific bar has 20 grams of protein and 18 grams of fiber. Delicious and nutritious! I was sad to see sucralose in the ingredients though.

Banana Nut Muffin
This bar has 20 grams of protein and 17 of fiber. That is so huge!

The banana taste is strong and I love that. I almost feel like I'm eating fudge or something, but healthier. The nuts add an interesting texture. So yummy! The only downside of this one is that there is sucralose in it, which is shocking considering how everything else in the bar is so good for you!

Coconut Cashew
This bar has 17 grams of fiber and 20 grams of protein! Coconut Cashew has an interesting texture that is a little crunchier from the rest.

It has a good strong coconut and cashew taste That is great for if you love that nutty flavor. Sweetened with stevia and no splenda! This is great since splenda tends to give me headaches.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
21 grams of protein and 17 grams of fiber! The taste is heavenly, similar to real cookie dough! This was a really filling bar and at 190 calories, this makes a good breakfast! I really can't get over how good the taste is.

Unfortunately, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough has sucralose  in it too, which I really don't want to be having. If the sucralose is taken out, I would buy so many of these!

I looked on Quest's site again and I see many options of stevia sweetened bars, so there are definitely options if you don't want artificial sweeteners!

These bars were sent to me as a sample promotion from a while back.

uve Review!

Heeellloo! I have a pretty exciting post for you guys today! This is such an interesting thing and I bet you guys will like it too!

About uve
uve is a company that offers beverages that are designed to be all natural and have benefits for you! All of the drinks are zero calories, sugar free and naturally sweetened with stevia. The drinks are naturally colored with fruit juice, so no artificial dyes here! All of the drinks also include African mango seed extract which can boost metabolism and could make you lose weight.

My Thoughts

Before I really get into this, I just wanted to say that I can't tell if these drinks will make you lose weight just because I only tried 3. I will say that if you replace one of these uve drinks with a soda or sugary drink every day, you will lose weight for sure!

Apple Pomegranate
This was a really interesting flavor. As soon as I cracked open the bottle, I could smell the delicious pomegranate. As I leaned in closer, I could smell the apple more.

It tastes great! It is a very bubbly drink, which I love! It isn't overly sweet, which is nice. It doesn't have a yucky artificial taste to it and I really like it. It has a light taste of apple and a stronger taste of pomegranate. I find it amazing that this drink has zero calories which makes it the perfect treat!

Wowberry
The name is not the only awesome thing about this drink! This is kind of like the opposite of Apple Pomegranate since you can't initially smell the flavor, but you can taste it really strong. It is a very rich berry flavor that I can't really quite put my finger on. The only identifiable fruit for me is grape.

I love the complex rich flavor of Wowberry and just like the previous drink, it is pleasantly bubbly. The hint of tartness adds interest to the beverage, which I think a lot of people would enjoy.I think this kind was my favorite.

Black Cherry Lemonade
Just from the name alone, I knew I was going to like Black Cherry Lemonade. There's not much to say about it other than it tastes like a good cherry lemonade with bubbles in it. I think this is a very universal flavor if you are afraid to try anything too unique like Apple Pomegranate.

I totally encourage you guys to check these out (especially Wowberry)!

Cafe Viva Probiotic Coffee Review!

Hello! Here's a review, I know a lot of you will like. Do you want to make your morning coffee healthier? This might be an option for you!

About Cafe Viva
Cafe Viva is a revolutionary combination of coffee and probiotics. This is actually a combination that has never been made before! Laktera Cafe Viva puts together two things that are important to me, coffee and health!

My Thoughts

I received 7 packets that retail for $19.95 (I was kind of hoping for more to try creating recipes). Basically, this is a healthier instant coffee. There is a blend of probiotics in it, which is more convenient than taking a probiotic blend in my opinion. There is four billion healthy bacteria in the blend!

If you didn't already know, these are some of the benefits of probiotics:
  • Better stomach health
  • Supports immunity
  • Boost energy
  • Boost metabolism
Those benefits are definitely something a lot of people need in there life!
Cafe Viva is the first of it's kind to combine a probiotic blend with instant coffee. By the way, this instant coffee is naturally processed by being freeze-dried with water. Some coffees are processed with chemical agents, which are questionable.

There are so many ways that Cafe Viva is different from other instant coffee and probiotic companies, I will list them.

  • Premium Robusta coffee from Brazil
  • Uses a plant-based creamer
  • Non-GMO
  • No artificial colors
  • No preservatives
  • No high fructose corn syrup
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • No fillers
Ok, now onto the taste! It does say to prepare it under about 113 degrees Fahrenheit. It might not dissolve 100% in the water, but it isn't really a problem for me (as you may see in the pictures above). One tip I have is pour the coffee little by little into the water and stir, which will help it dissolve.

To me, this tastes like some good quality coffee. I can't taste the probiotic blend, but I also can't really taste the creamer. This wasn't a problem at all and I just added my favorite flavored creamer and some stevia. Delicious!

As I mentioned before, the 7 day challenge is $19.95. The more you buy, the lower the price per packet gets. For example, 2 boxes (28 packets each) is $80. When comparing this to buying instant coffee and a probiotic blend, I think this is a less expensive alternative.

If you want to make your coffee healthier, I recommend checking out Cafe Viva!
